Dean Davis writes:
I have a friend who came to Canada from Ireland some years ago, and he has given me some insight as to our genealogy that I was not aware of…at least some of it. For example, ” On 7 Oct 1824, Henry White, turned over Clonganny (place?) to Joseph Davis, of MoneyLane, Lands of Garrynew, (104.12 acres), of late in possession of Henry Hopkins at rent of 1190 pounds per annum. 3 lives: Stephen Ram (aged 8) of Ramsfort; Rev Henry Stopford (Son of Earl of Courtown) and Joseph Davis (aged 5) son of lessee. COVENANT: “To plant 300 ash or fir trees within 3 years” Fine of 5 pounds per acre sublet. ….Joseph disappears off the Wexford Conservative elector list after Oct 9 1841 and before Feb 2, 1842. After that, only Joseph Henry b 1820 appears. On the 1846 land registry, Catherine Davis (Bell) is listed as owner of the Garrynew property. **my notes indicate Joseph and Catherine were married in 1811, in Ardmore, Wexford, Ireland, and he passed away in 1842. I thought you might find this of interest….Dean
